Artist Statement

Creative exploration and craftsmanship came to me late in life at the age of forty.  Both my grandmother and mother were excellent crafts people, each choosing to work in the media of fabrics and yarns.  After a successful career as a health care executive I started to look for something in life that would feed my malnourished creative soul.  That is when a dear friend took me to the craft store and I’ve been hooked ever since.  My first entry into jewelry making was with polymer clay.  I loved the color and versatility of this medium.  However, I always felt that the worked looked unfinished.  That is what led me to metalwork and the Maryland Institute and College of Art (MICA) jewelry and metal forming program.  I found the intrinsic beauty of metal enhanced by the use of alternative medium that add color and variety to be an intoxicating blend.  As a student at MICA I found my second love to be resin.  Resin is a media with limitless form, texture and color.  Under the tutelage of the MICA staff I began to explore this media in an environment that allowed me to push my own limits as an artist. 

On a personal note I want to thank all of the artists and instructors at MICA, The Metals Guild of Maryland, Baltimore Polymer Clay Guild and the Baltimore Gem Cutters Guild who  continue to spark my creative spirit and soothe my soul. 

I currently reside in Ellicott City, MD with my husband, two teenage sons, my precious pets Brittany , and Pate.
